Titans Have Six Top-10 Listings At Silverston Invitational

The UW-Oshkosh men's track & field team recorded six top-10 finishes at the University of Michigan's Silverston Invitational held Friday (Feb. 16) in Ann Arbor, Mich.

No team scores were kept at the meet that featured competitors from NCAA Division I schools Central Michigan University, Eastern Michigan University, Kent State University (Ohio), University of Michigan and University Toledo (Ohio). UW-Oshkosh, Calvin College (Mich.) and Heidelberg University (Ohio) were among the NCAA Division III schools represented.

Erik Schwandt paced UW-Oshkosh with his second-place time of 6.90 seconds in the 60-meter dash. University of Michigan's Desmond Nicholas won the event of 20 participants with a time of 6.84 seconds.

The Titans finished fourth in a pair of events as Devan Gertschen leaped to a height of 16-0 3/4 in the pole vault while Ryan Powers sprinted to a time of 21.97 seconds in the 200-meter dash. Sam Wagner of Central Michigan University won the pole vault with a measurement of 16-4 3/4 and Riak Reese of Kent State University the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.11 seconds.

UW-Oshkosh also had Christian Lopez place fifth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.15 seconds, Bailey Quinn seventh in the 35-pound weight throw with a distance of 53-8 1/4 and Nick Freitag eighth in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:56.64.

With the exception of the 60-meter dash, all running events were contested on a banked track.

UW-Oshkosh will host participants from nearly 10 schools in the Titan Challenge on Saturday (Feb. 17) in Kolf Sports Center.
