Powers, Trimner All-Americans At NCAA Outdoor Championship

Sophomore Ryan Powers and senior Danny Trimner produced their third career All-America performances as UW-Oshkosh finished 51st with five points at the NCAA Division III Men's Outdoor Track & Field Championship this weekend (May 25-27) at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio.

Trimner finished fifth in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 57.21 while Powers placed eighth in the 400-meter run with a time of 47.73 on Saturday (May 27).

Trimner, who entered the national meet seeded seventh in the 400-meter hurdles, qualified for Saturday's final by running a time of 53.04 during the preliminaries on Thursday (May 25).

Anthony Salemo from Rowan University (N.J.) claimed the 400-meter hurdles title with a time of 51.06.

Trimner also achieved All-America accolades as a member of the Titans' 1,600-meter relay teams in 2015. He helped UW-Oshkosh finish second in the event at the national indoor meet and seventh at the outdoor championship.

Powers, seeded 13th in the 400-meter run, advanced to the final with a preliminary-round time of 48.21 on Friday (May 26).

UW-La Crosse's Ross Denman won the 400-meter run with a time of 46.89.

Powers previously attained All-America status by finishing sixth in the 400-meter dash at the 2016 indoor national meet. He also ran a leg on UW-Oshkosh's 400-meter relay team that placed sixth at the 2016 Division III outdoor championship.

UW-La Crosse scored 47 points to secure its third straight and 15th overall national title. The Eagles were followed in the standings by second-place UW-Whitewater with 45 points, third-place University of Mount Union (Ohio) with 29, fourth-place Benedictine University (Ill.) with 28 and fifth-place UW-Eau Claire with 24.

UW-Oshkosh was also represented at the championship by junior Devan Gertschen and senior Joe Zack.

Gertschen finished 17th in the pole vault with a height of 15-3 while Zack was 13th in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 3:53.42.

Luke Winder from North Central College (Ill.) won the pole vault with a Division III championship-record clearance of 17-10 1/2. Isaac Garcia-Cassani from State University of New York at Geneseo was victorious in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 3:52.59.

UW-Oshkosh, the 2009 Division III outdoor champion, has scored at least five points at the past 34 national outdoor meets.
