Titans Finish 18th At NCAA Outdoor Championship

Jordan Carpenter's runner-up finish in the 3,000-meter steeplechase highlighted UW-Oshkosh's four All-America performances as the Titans placed 18th in the team standings at the NCAA Division III Men's Outdoor Championship held May 26-28 in Waverly, Iowa.

Carpenter, who earned his second All-America citation in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, finished in a time of 9:13.70 while Ryan Bugler from Saint John's University (Minn.) won the event in 9:11.98. Carpenter also placed eighth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the 2014 national meet.

UW-La Crosse won its second straight and division-leading 14th overall national team title by scoring 41 points. UW-Eau Claire placed second with 33 points while Monmouth College (Ill.) finished third with 32, UW-Platteville fourth with 31 and UW-Whitewater fifth with 25.

Rounding out the top 10 teams were sixth-place Central College (Iowa) with 24 points, seventh-place Whitworth University (Wash.) and Wesley College (Del.) with 23, ninth-place North Central College (Ill.) with 22 and a 10th-place tie among Aurora University (Ill.), St. Olaf College (Minn.) and State University of New York at Cortland with 21 points.

UW-Oshkosh, which sent 10 athletes to compete in 10 events at the championship, scored 15 points.

The Titans joining Carpenter with All-America accolades were the sixth-place 400-meter relay team of Naji Allan, Kallen Bentz, Christian Lopez and Ryan Powers, and sixth-place finisher Allan in the 200-meter dash and eighth-place Roberto Lara in the 1,500-meter run.

The UW-Oshkosh 400-meter relay team ran a time of 41.21 while Wesley College won the event with a championship-record time of 40.01.

Allan concluded the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.44. Hugh Pegan from Occidental College (Calif.) won the race in 21.59. Allan also had a ninth-place showing in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.70.

Lara ended the 1,500-meter run with a time of 3:51.12 while St. Olaf College's Jake Campbell won the event in 3:49.27.

Also competing for UW-Oshkosh at the national meet were 11th-place Zachary Baehman in the shot put and Danny Trimner in the 400-meter hurdles, 13th-place Devan Gertschen in the pole vault, 14th-place Powers in the 400-meter dash and the ninth-place 1,600-meter relay team of Bentz, Garrison Griest, Powers and Trimner.

Baehman had a top distance of 53-6 1/4 while Trimner had a time of 53.34 and Gertschen cleared a height of 16-0 3/4.

Powers finished the 400-meter race in a time of 48.18, and the Titan 1,600-meter relay squad had a time of 3:12.84.

NCAA Division III men's individual national champions also included Alex Mess from UW-Eau Claire in the shot put (59-7 1/2), Luke Campbell from Salisbury University (Md.) in the 400-meter hurdles (50.52), Luke Winder from North Central College in the pole vault (17-4 1/2), Daniel Pietsch from Emory University (Ga.) in the 400-meter dash (46.92), and UW-La Crosse in the 1,600-meter relay (3:10.50).
