Baehman Leads Titans At NCAA Outdoor Championship

Zachary Baehman finished fourth in the shot put to lead UW-Oshkosh at the NCAA Division III Men's Outdoor Track & Field Championship on May 21-23 in Canton, N.Y.

Baehman earned his first outdoor All-America citation with a heave of 55-2 1/4 in the first round of competition.

UW-Oshkosh scored seven points to tie for 39th place.

UW-La Crosse secured the team title with 71 points. UW-Eau Claire finished second with 46 points, followed by UW-Whitewater in third place with 42 points, Salisbury University (Md.) in fourth with 31 and St. Olaf College (Minn.) in fifth with 27.

Baehman tallied five team points in the shot put, and the Titans' 1,600-meter relay squad of Brian Beaudo, Kallen Bentz, Dan Trimner and Reid Zanoya marked two in the final event of the championship.

The 1,600-meter quartet placed seventh with a time of 3:14.77. It was the third straight All-America showing in the event for both Beaudo and Zanoya.

The other UW-Oshkosh individual competitors at the Division III championship were Naji Allan in the 100-meter dash, Mike Heinz and Scott Heinz in the discus throw, Derek Johnsrud in the 10,000-meter run and Roberto Lara in the 1,500-meter run.

Scott Heinz (165-2) and Mike Heinz (153-10) placed ninth and 17th, respectively, among 20 competitors while Johnsrud (31:37.10) finished 12th.

In the preliminary rounds, Allan finished 11th with a time of 10.96, Lara was 20th with a time of 4:12.57 and the 400-meter relay team of Allan, Bentz, Jaron Olson and Nolan Peterson was 13th with a time of 41.73.
