Titans Compete At Drake, Gina Relays

Jecel (Gerner) Klotz finished 15th in the shot put to lead UW-Oshkosh's track & field efforts at the 106th Annual Drake Relays held April 23-25 in Des Moines, Iowa.

Klotz competed in the University/College Division and recorded a measurement of 47-2 1/2. Amelia Strickler of NCAA Division I Miami University (Ohio) won the event of 26 participants with a toss of 53-5.

UW-Oshkosh's Melanie Brickner finished 21st in the University/College Division of the hammer throw with a distance of 154-0. Heavin Warner of NCAA Division II University of Central Missouri took first place in the event of 23 competitors with a mark of 194-7.

UW-Oshkosh also competed in a pair of women's College Division relays. The Titans took 18th at 400 meters as Samantha Blue, Emily Reichenberger, Ashley Holicek and Becklyn Hunter posted a time of 48.80 seconds. The 1,600-meter race featured Blue, Hunter, Reichenberger and Caitlyn McCormick registering a 25th-place time of 3:59.50.

In the men's College Division, two relay teams represented UW-Oshkosh. The Titans placed 15th at 1,600 meters as Naji Allan, Brian Beaudo, Dan Trimner and Reid Zanoya recorded a time of 3:14.47. The 400-meter race had Allan, Trimner, Zanoya and Nolan Peterson finish 21st with an effort of 42.68 seconds.

A group of athletes also represented UW-Oshkosh at the 49th Annual Gina Relays on April 23-25 in Hillsdale, Mich.

Justin Skinkis owned the top men's finish with his 11th-place time of 1:56.31 in the Open Division of the 800-meter run. Caleb Gatchell of NCAA Division II Hillsdale College (Mich.) won the event with a time of 1:56.31.

UW-Oshkosh had three men entered in the Championship Division of the 1,500-meter run. Roberto Lara finished 16th with a time of 3:52.39, while Joe Zack placed 21st in 3:54.74 and Kenny Halloran 23rd in 3:55.67. Grzegorz Kalinowski of the Very Nice Track Club took first place with a time of 3:44.51.

In the 10,000-meter run of the Men's Championship Division, UW-Oshkosh's Derek Johnsrud finished 13th with a time of 30:34.74. Job Kemboi of Clayton State University (Ga.) won the race with a time of 29:43.92.

UW-Oshkosh had for women entered in the Open Division of both the 1,500- and 5,000-meter runs.

Sonny Jenkins finished 21st in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:57.46, while Isabella Tremonti placed 26th in 5:00.19, Erica Munyan 32nd in 5:04.07 and Cheyenne Moore 35th in 5:05.89. Erin McDonald, competing unattached, won the race with a time of 4:37.40.

In the 5,000-meter run, Jenkins finished 18th with a time of 18:09.62. Moore placed 34th in 18:48.81, Tremonti 40th in 18:55.67 and Munyan 44th in 19:00.58. Kayla Smade of Wayne State University (Mich.) captured first place with her time of 17:29.12.

The Titans also had Kylee Verhasselt finish 13th in the Championship Division of the 800-meter run with a time of 2:12.80. Rebecca Addison, participating unattached, won the race with a time of 2:06.73.

Several members of the UW-Oshkosh men's and women's track & field teams will compete at the UW-Whitewater Drake Alternative Meet on Sunday (April 26) in Whitewater.
