Brandt Named To CoSIDA Academic All-America Team

UW-Oshkosh's Jeremy Brandt was one of 45 student-athletes named to the 2013-14 Capital One Academic All-America® Division III Men's Track & Field/Cross Country Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Brandt, a first-time honoree, was voted to the 16-member second team. UW-Stout's Zach Anderson was chosen to the first team, UW-La Crosse's Josh Dedering to the second and UW-La Crosse's Jacob Peterson to the third.

Brandt earned a pair of All-America awards while competing in the shot put at this year's NCAA Division III indoor and outdoor championships. He placed seventh indoors with a distance of 53-8 1/2 and eighth outdoors with a mark of 53-6 1/2.

UW-Oshkosh finished third in the team competition at the NCAA Division III Indoor Championship with 37.5 points and fourth at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Championship with 27.

Performing at championship events hosted by the WIAC, Brandt finished third in the shot put twice. He recorded measurements of 54-9 1/2 indoors and 53-5 1/2 outdoors.

Brandt, a senior from Wausau, owns a 3.69 grade-point average majoring in special education. In 2013, he placed eighth in the shot put to collect All-America mention at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Championship.

Since the inception of the CoSIDA Academic All-America Program in 1952, 50 UW-Oshkosh student-athletes have combined to total 71 Academic All-America awards.

To be eligible for Academic All-America selection, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative grade-point average of 3.30 on a scale of 4.0, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at his current institution and be nominated by his sports information director.

The Academic All-America team is selected after All-District teams are picked from eight geographic regions nationally. All first-team Academic All-District honorees advance to the Academic All-America ballot.
