Ramos Leads Titans At WIAC Indoor Championship

Freshman McKena Ramos captured two titles during UW-Oshkosh's third-place showing at the WIAC Men's Indoor Track & Field Championship from Feb. 28-March 1 in Whitewater.

UW-La Crosse tallied 189 points to win its 13th straight crown. UW-Eau Claire followed in second with 131, along with third-place UW-Oshkosh (109), fourth-place UW-Whitewater (99) and fifth-place UW-Platteville (74.5).

Ramos scored victories in the 800-meter run at 1:51.42 and the mile run at 4:10.90. His 800-meter time ranks second in the nation.

John McCann earned the high jump title with his leap over 6-9.5. He finished second in the event at last year's meet.

The Titans acquired 21 points in the relays, with Ryan Gregory running on all three teams. UW-Oshkosh finished second in both the 1,600-meter (3:19.92) and the distance medley relay (10:11.52). The 800-meter group placed fourth with a time of 1:31.16.

Sean Kutz listed third in the 5,000-meter run at 14:44.77, as did Jake Dickmann in the pole vault at 15-7.

In the shot put, Jeremy Brandt took third at 54-9.5 and Zachary Baehman came in fifth at 53-8.25. The weight throw standings featured Joe Brunner in third at 60-8.75 and Nick Grosskopf in fifth at 56-6.75.

Brian Beaudo and Brett DeNure each placed fourth on the track. Beaudo clocked a 49.31 in the 400-meter race, while DeNure used 1:53.91 in the 800-meter event. During the mile run, DeNure added a fifth-place time of 4:15.65.

UW-Oshkosh competes in a pair of last-chance meets next weekend (March 7-8).
