Titans Conquer Vikings In Season Opener

UW-Oshkosh swept the top two places in six events as it easily defeated Lawrence University, 96-35, in a men's track and field meet held Saturday (Jan. 18) in Kolf Sports Center. The meet served as the indoor season opener for both teams.

The Titans controlled the short and middle distance running events by owning the first and second-place finisher in the 60-meter dash, 200-meter dash, 400-meter run and mile run.

Naji Allan won the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.08 seconds, while Brian Huebner finished second in 7.29. In the 200-meter dash, Brian Beaudo took first place in 23.07 seconds and Reid Zanoya second in 23.38.

The 400-meter run featured Mike Servais taking first place with a time of 50.45 seconds and Ryan Gregory second in 51.41. McKena Ramos posted a winning time of 4:14.47 in the mile run, while Ken Halloran finished second in 4:14.09.

UW-Oshkosh had the two performers in the long jump as Kyle Schueller took first with a leap of 23-2 3/4 and Jonathan Jordan second with a mark of 23-2 1/2. Schueller also took second in the triple jump with a distance of 45-11 3/4.

In the pole vault, Matt McMullen finished first and Kevin Caufield second with heights of 13-9 1/4 and 12-9, respectively.

Other event winners for the Titans were Mitch Pauers in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 9:13.93 and John McCann in the high jump with a leap of 6-8.

UW-Oshkosh also ran to a winning time of 3:25.20 in the 1,600-meter relay.

The Titans' remaining second-place efforts belonged to Jordan Carpenter in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:58.46, Joe Brunner in the 35-pound weight throw with a distance of 56-1 and Jeremy Brandt in the shot put with a mark of 52-6.

UW-Oshkosh competes Friday (Jan. 24) at the North Central Cardinal Opener in Naperville, Ill.
