Titans Finish Michigan Trip On High Note

UW-Oshkosh earned its first men's tennis victory of the season when it split a pair of matches in Michigan on Saturday (Feb. 14).

The Titans (1-5) suffered a 9-0 loss at Kalamazoo College (2-1) in the opener before leaving from a visit to Albion College (0-1) with an 8-1 victory.

Against Kalamazoo College, the Hornets outscored UW-Oshkosh in three doubles victories, 24-9, and won all six singles flights in straight sets.

Spencer Navarre and Eric De Witt got things off to a fast start for Kalamazoo College by posting an 8-0 victory over David La Grange and Logan Zastrow at No. 3 doubles. Elan Dantus and Brandon Metzler followed with an 8-3 win over Vincent Gorski and Adam Martin in the second flight.

UW-Oshkosh put up a strong fight at No. 1 doubles, but Mike Gillespie and Aidan Sauberlich came up short during an 8-6 setback to Robert Hudson and David DeSimone.

In singles play, UW-Oshkosh's Gillespie lost a 6-2, 6-3 decision to Metzler in the first flight while Zastrow lost a 6-3, 6-1 result to Navarre in the fifth.

UW-Oshkosh players losing by 6-2, 6-1 scores were Gorski to Hudson in the third flight and Martin to De Witt in the fourth.

Kalamazoo College completed the match with DeSimone's 6-2, 6-0 win over Sauberlich in the second flight and Dantus' 6-0, 6-1 triumph over Jordan Andersen in the sixth.

Against Albion College, UW-Oshkosh swept the three doubles contests by a 24-7 score and won five of the six singles flights.

The Titans posted a pair of 8-1 victories in doubles action as Gillespie and Sauberlich defeated Zach McKenzie and Rahul Raj in the first flight while La Grange and Zastrow ousted Troy Pozolo and Andrew Zimmer in the third.

UW-Oshkosh's tandem of Gorski and David Leffler defeated Ross Kynast and Will Pearl by an 8-5 score in the second flight.

La Grange was perfect in singles play as he recorded a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Raj in the third flight.

Other Titans winning singles contests in straight sets were Gillespie in the first flight, Gorski in the second and Zastrow in the third.

Gillespie won a 6-4, 6-1 result over Kynast, while Gorski took a 6-4, 7-6 decision from Pozolo. Zastrow was a 6-0, 6-2 winner over Zimmer.

UW-Oshkosh picked up its remaining individual win from Sauberlich in the second flight. He rallied to edge McKenzie by a 0-6, 7-6, 6-3 verdict.

The Britons earned their lone team point on Pearl's 4-6, 6-0, 1-0 (10-2) win over Leffler in the fifth flight.   

UW-Oshkosh is off until it visits Wheaton College (Ill.) on Feb. 28.
