Titans Smother Red Hawks

It was all UW-Oshkosh right from the start as the Titans recorded a 9-0 victory over the Ripon College men's tennis team on Friday (April 4) at the Oshkosh YMCA Tennis Center.

The shutout was UW-Oshkosh's sixth of the season. The Titans previously tallied 9-0 wins over Lawrence University, Lake Forest College (Ill.), St. Norbert College, Milwaukee School of Engineering and Concordia University Wisconsin.

UW-Oshkosh (12-6) established the tempo against Ripon College (2-12) by winning 24-of-26 games in doubles play.

The Titans' three doubles victories included 8-0 triumphs by Mike Gillespie and Andy Wildish in the second flight and Jason Alexander and Matt Brooks in the third. Gillespie and Wildish defeated Anders Goodwin and Tyler Hopewell, while Alexander and Matt Brooks ousted Nick Julian and Lincoln Wurtz.

UW-Oshkosh also picked up an 8-2 win from Bobby Brooks and Kevin Lewis over Eric Seiler and Ryan Slowinski at No. 1 doubles.

UW-Oshkosh's domination continued in singles action. The Titans won 72-of-83 games, including 6-0, 6-0 victories by Gillespie over Wurtz in the third flight and Adam Martin over Julian in the sixth.

Lewis added a 6-1, 6-0 win over Slowinski in the second flight, Alexander a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Hopewell in the fourth and Alex Yang a 6-1, 6-1 triumph over Goodwin in the fifth.

Bobby Brooks completed the list of winners with his 6-3, 6-3 victory over Seiler at No. 1 singles.

UW-Oshkosh travels to La Crosse for matches against the University of Northwestern-St. Paul (Minn.) and UW-La Crosse on April 12.
