Titans Edged By Red Hawks In Home Finale

UW-Oshkosh won five events, including a pair by Jarrett Lieder, during its 95-87 men's swimming & diving loss to Ripon College on Saturday (Feb. 2) in Albee Hall.

Lieder took first place in the 200-yard individual medley and 500-yard freestyle with times of 2:02.80 and 4:56.78, respectively. He also joined David Bain, Case Geidl and Alex Jernberg for a winning swim of 1:44.24 in the 200-yard medley relay.

Jernberg added a victory of his own by winning the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:35.83. He also placed second in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:05.91.

Geidl further contributed a first-place performance of 26.13 seconds in the 50-yard freestyle and a third-place effort of 58.11 seconds in the 100-yard butterfly.

UW-Oshkosh's remaining second-place finishes included freestyle times of 51.25 seconds at 100 yards for Michael Gerondale, 5:29.99 at 500 yards for Ian Sewell and 11:25.82 at 1,000 yards for Else.

The Titans' Bain was the runner-up in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 59.38 seconds.

UW-Oshkosh, which was hosting its final home meet of the 2018-19 season, also placed second with a time of 1:39.82 in the 200-yard freestyle relay. The relay squad consisted of Else, Gerondale, Sewell and Matt Holst.

UW-Oshkosh's two other third-place results included the swims of 1:06.70 in the 100-yard breaststroke by Else and 1:54.63 in the 200-yard freestyle by Sewell.

Finishing fourth for the Titans were Bain in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:19.73, Gerondale in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:58.82 and Holst in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:15.66.

Matt Wilke and Evan Bredesen, who did not compete against Ripon College, represented UW-Oshkosh on Saturday at the University of Illinois at Chicago Diving Invitational in Chicago, Ill. 

Wilke finished sixth and Bredesen 10th off both diving boards. Wilke totaled 247.10 points and Bredesen 184.10 in the 1-meter category. The 3-meter section had Wilke compile 262.95 points and Bredesen 172.20.

Andrew Lewarchick of the University of Illinois at Chicago defeated nine other challengers in both diving events. He had winning scores of 320.60 off the 1-meter board and 320.65 off the 3-meter plank.

UW-Oshkosh is off until it competes at the WIAC Championship on Feb. 14-16 at the Schroeder Aquatic Center in Brown Deer. The Titans placed fifth at last year's championship with 245 points.
