Titans Paced By Wilke At Carthage College Classic

David Bain, Evan Bredesen and Matt Wilke each earned a pair of top-10 individual finishes as the UW-Oshkosh men's swimming & diving team placed seventh at the Carthage College Classic held Thursday through Saturday (Nov. 29-Dec.1) in Kenosha.

Wilke led UW-Oshkosh by finishing third in the 1- and fourth in the 3-meter diving with 423.95 and 409.40 points, respectively.

Bredesen also placed highly in the diving after compiling 336.90 points for a seventh-place finish off the 1-meter board and 312.20 points for an eighth-place result off the 3-meter plank.

Heath Ogawa of Lake Forest College (Ill.) won both diving events by totaling 470.20 points in the 1-meter category and 480.35 in the 3-meter division.

Bain achieved his multiple listings in the backstroke. He placed seventh at 100 yards with a time of 57.0 seconds and eighth at 200 in 2:03.88.

The Titans also received a sixth-place time of 16:53.58 in the 1,650-yard freestyle from Jarrett Lieder and a 10th-place time of 2:21.29 in the 200-yard backstroke from Alex Jernberg.

UW-Oshkosh had three relay units place in the top five, including the 400-yard freestyle group of Lieder, Case Geidl, Michael Gerondale and Ian Sewell that finished fourth with a time of 3:19.88.

The Titans' two other relay teams finished fifth as the 200-yard freestyle quartet of Geidl, Gerondale, Lieder and Sewell posted a time of 1:29.60 and the 800-yard freestyle foursome of Gerondale, Jernberg, Lieder and Sewell recorded a time of 7:30.88.

UW-Oshkosh tallied 861 points for its seventh-place finish in the team standings. Carthage College won the 10-team meet with 2,960.5 points while UW-Whitewater ranked second with 2,197.5, Lake Forest College third with 1,534.5, Olivet College (Mich.) fourth with 1,019.5 and Illinois Wesleyan University fifth with 969.

The Titans travel to UW-Stevens Point for a dual meet on Friday (Dec. 7).
