Titans Get The Better Of Vikings

UW-Oshkosh won five events and swept the second through fourth places in four other categories to defeat the Lawrence University men's swimming & diving team, 113-98, on Saturday (Jan. 6) in Appleton.

Matt Wilke was the lone Titan to win multiple events. He captured first place in both the 1- and 3-meter diving with 320.48 and 295.35 points, respectively.

Winning swimming races for UW-Oshkosh were Jarrett Lieder in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:30.16 and Bryan Solomon in the 100-yard butterfly with a performance of 56.04 seconds.

The Titans owned the second, third and fourth-place finisher in the 100-yard backstroke, 100-yard breaststroke, 200-yard freestyle and 200-yard individual medley.

In the 100-yard backstroke, David Bain finished second with a time of 1:04.08 while Mitchell Bricco placed third in 1:06.39 and Dylan Sobolewski fourth in 1:07.14. The 100-yard breaststroke featured Sobolewski ranking second with a time of 1:11.52, Ross Armitage third in 1:11.80 and Bricco fourth in 1:12.33. 

Josiah Vandenberg finished second in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:52.90 while Ian Sewell placed third in 1:58.31 and Trevor Jacobs fourth in 2:02.90. The 200-yard individual medley had Solomon finish second with a time of 2:12.31, Sobolewski third in 2:20.87 and Bain fourth in 2:26.18.

UW-Oshkosh owned three other second-place finishers as Lieder went 5:02.58 in the 500-yard freestyle, Sewell 53.72 seconds in the 100-yard freestyle and Vandenberg 2:12.31 in the 100-yard butterfly.

Other Titans finishing third were Jacobs in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 54.80 seconds, Grady Hilgendorf in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a performance of 11:06.79 and Nathan Newman in the 50-yard freestyle with an effort of 24.29 seconds.

UW-Oshkosh's fourth-place listings concluded with the times of 25.18 seconds in the 50-yard freestyle by Bricco and 57.08 seconds in the 100-yard freestyle by Newman.

In the relays, UW-Oshkosh placed first in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:34.43 and second in the 200-yard medley at 1:44.86.

Members of the Titans' winning 200-yard freestyle relay team were Jacobs, Lieder, Newman and Sewell. The 200-yard medley relay squad consisted of Bain, Hilgendorf, Solomon and Vandenberg.

UW-Oshkosh is idle until it hosts Beloit College on Jan. 19 and UW-La Crosse on Jan. 20 in Albee Hall.
