Pointers Outscore Titans

Matt Wilke was UW-Oshkosh's lone event winner during the Titans' 170-64 men's swimming & diving loss to 18-time defending WIAC champion UW-Stevens Point on Friday (Dec. 8) in Albee Hall.

Wilke won the 1-meter diving for the Titans with 291.25 points. He also finished second in the 3-meter diving category with a score of 311.85.

UW-Oshkosh's Jarrett Lieder finished second in a pair of races, the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 23.62 seconds and the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 57.33.

The Titans received additional second-place swims from Ian Sewell in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:58.81 and Bryan Solomon in the 500-yard freestyle with a performance of 5:22.26. Solomon also contributed a fourth-place time of 2:12.91 in the 200-yard individual medley.

UW-Oshkosh's Grady Hilgendorf finished third in two events, the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:07.53 and 1,000-yard freestyle with an effort of 11:03.34.

Other third-place finishes belonged to the Titans' Alec Leppla in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 52.79 seconds and Mitchell Bricco in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:12.71. Both swimmers also earned a fourth-place finish as Leppla went 24.12 seconds in the 50-yard freestyle while Bricco went 1:09.08 in the 100-yard breaststroke.

UW-Oshkosh's remaining fourth-place finishes included times of 2:00.34 in the 200-yard freestyle and 5:41.66 in the 500-yard freestyle by Dylan Sobolewski.

Brandon Davison and David Bain also gave UW-Oshkosh fourth-place results with their times of 53.99 seconds in the 100-yard freestyle and 1:02.78 in the 100-yard backstroke, respectively.

The Titans finished second in the 200-yard medley relay as Bain, Hilgendorf, Solomon and Ross Armitage recorded a time of 1:47.84.

UW-Oshkosh is off until it competes at Lawrence University on Jan. 6.
