10th-Place Efforts Lead Titans At Rochester Invitational

A pair of 10th-place finishes highlighted UW-Oshkosh's results at the Rochester Men's Swimming & Diving Invitational held this past weekend (Dec. 5-7) in Rochester, Minn.

Host St. Cloud State University (Minn.) won the six-team meet with 1,1,61 points. The NCAA Division II Huskies were followed by NCAA Division I University of South Dakota with 991 points and UW-La Crosse with 647. UW-Eau Claire finished fourth with 482 points, Luther College (Iowa) fifth with 263 and UW-Oshkosh sixth with 145.

UW-Oshkosh's Tyler Shircel placed 10th in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:20.26. St. Cloud State University's Justin Winnett won the event in 2:04.16.

Shircel teamed with Andrew Bores, Grady Hilgendorf and Zach Hogan to take 10th in the 800-yard freestyle relay with a time of 7:38.13. St. Cloud State University won the race with a time of 6:49.76.

Placing 11th for the Titans were Shircel in the 400-yard individual medley with a time of 4:29.84 and the 800-yard freestyle relay team of Brandon Davison, Andrew Doyle, Patrick Keleny and Val Mikitchik with a time of 7:49.45.

Shircel added a 14th-place swim in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:06.88 and a 25th-place effort in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:06.63. He also teamed with Bores, Hilgendorf and Hogan for 15th place in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:44.28.

Dylan Schanz of St. Cloud State University won the 400-yard individual medley with a time of 4:09.01, and his team won the 800-yard freestyle relay in 6:49.76.

Finishing 12th for UW-Oshkosh were Hilgendorf in the 1,650-yard freestyle with a time of 17:56.54 and Myles Taylor in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:58.57.

Taylor added a 13th-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:48.00, and 16th-place efforts in both the 50- and 100-yard freestyle (50.44) races.

Taylor was also a member of three relays that placed in the top 16. He teamed with Bores, Doyle and Keleny for 13th in the 400-yard medley relay with a time of 3:46.73; Bores, Davison and Hogan for 13th in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:31.67; and Jacob Casper, Keleny and Alec Marquardt for 16th in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:46.35.

Also turning in 13th-place showings for the Titans were Casper in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:03.10 and Hogan in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 56.17.

Casper finished 15th in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:23.81 and teamed with Davison, Hilgendorf and Marquardt for 15th place in the 400-yard medley relay in a time of 4:01.33 as well as Crement, Marquardt and Mikitchik for 18th in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:38.50.

Rounding out UW-Oshkosh's top-20 finishers were Hogan in 14th in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:07.29, Doyle 16th in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:03.73, Marquardt 16th in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:15.79, and Hilgendorf 20th in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:08.49.

UW-Oshkosh hosts Lawrence University on Friday (Dec. 12) in Albee Hall.
