Casper, Hilgendorf Pace Titans In Season Opener

Jacob Casper and Grady Hilgendorf finished in the top 25 in four events to lead the UW-Oshkosh men's swimming & Diving team at the Wisconsin College Showcase held Saturday (Oct. 25) in Brown Deer.

Casper teamed with Brandon Davison, Zach Hogan and Patrick Keleny to claim 12th place in the 16-team 200-yard medley relay race with a time of 1:47.04. NCAA Division I member UW-Green Bay won the event with a time of 1:33.45.

Casper also placed 20th in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:08.71, 21st in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:35.10 and 25th in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:22.86.

Hilgendorf teamed with Andrew Bores, Davison and Andrew Doyle for the Titans' best showing with a 10th-place effort in the 400-yard freestyle relay. The UW-Oshkosh quartet finished with a time of 3:39.72. Division 1 UW-Milwaukee won the race with a time of 3:08.28.

Hilgendorf also finished 19th in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:34.26, 20th in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:15.28 and 21st in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:27.65.

Tyler Shircel provided UW-Oshkosh's best solo effort with an 11th-place showing during the 400-yard individual medley in a time of 4:35.67. He was the second-fastest Division III swimmer to the wall in the event won by UW-Green Bay's Willem Poelmans with a time of 4:06.80.

Shircel also placed 15th in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:25.02 and 19th in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:10.42.

Hogan added individual finishes of 13th in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:16.63 and 19th in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 59.65.

Doyle had an 18th-place showing in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:31.72 and a 19th-place swim in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:06.68.

Taylor rounded out UW-Oshkosh's top-20 finishes, placing 20th in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 51.39. He also added a 24th-place effort in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 23.23.

Team scores were not kept at the meet.

UW-Oshkosh competes against Carroll University next Saturday (Nov. 1) in Albee Hall.
