Titans, Thunder Play To Scoreless Tie

Sam Gabrilska preserved his 17th career shutout with four saves as the UW-Oshkosh men's soccer team played to a scoreless double-overtime tie with Wheaton College (Ill.) on Wednesday (Oct. 7) at J. J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium.

Gabrilska, who lowered his goals against average on the season to 0.34, stopped two Wheaton College shots in the second half and one during both the first half and first overtime period.

Wheaton College goalkeeper Matt Paprocki also saved four shots in the competitive battle between traditional regional powers. He blocked two UW-Oshkosh shots in both the first and second halves.

UW-Oshkosh, which is unbeaten in its last 11 matches (9-0-2 record), attempted 17 shots against the Thunder.

Michael Dugan had three chances to put the Titans (9-1-2) on the scoreboard, but Paprocki saved all shots during the 10th, 36th and 89th minutes of play. Dugan finished the game with a match-high seven shots.

UW-Oshkosh's Malcolm Jeffris had a scoring opportunity denied by Paprocki in the 59th minute.

Wheaton College (6-3-2) totaled 12 shots against the Titans, including four by Stephen Golz.

Golz had a huge chance to score for the Thunder in the 18th minute, but his one-on-one challenge against Gabrilska went wide of the goal. Golz had another scoring opportunity in the 50th minute, but Gabrilska saved his shot.

Gabrilska also blocked shots taken by Wheaton College's Jon Clark in the 37th, Ben Bakke in the 82nd and Max Carey in the 97th minutes.

UW-Oshkosh earned nine of the game's 11 corner kicks, including six in the second half.

The Titans play 22nd-ranked The College of St. Scholastica on Sunday (Oct. 11) in Duluth, Minn.
