Titans Defeat Pioneers For Fourth Shutout Of Season

Elias Efthimiou scored near the end of each half as the UW-Oshkosh men's soccer team shut out Carroll University, 4-0, on Sunday (Sept. 28) at J. J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium.

Efthimiou, who entered the match with just one goal on the season, gave UW-Oshkosh a 2-0 lead on his 27-yard kick with 4:19 (40:41) remaining in the first period. He then closed the Titans' scoring on an 18-yard shot with 2:55 (87:05) left in the contest. A pass from Malcom Jeffris helped create Efthimiou's second goal.

John Schwalbach put UW-Oshkosh in front, 1-0, with his 20-yard free kick during the game's 17th minute (16:49). Schwalbach's first goal of the season followed a foul (red card) just outside the penalty box by Carroll University goalkeeper Jonathan Ramirez. The flagrant foul caused the Pioneers to play the final 73 minutes with just 10 players.

UW-Oshkosh (6-4-1) scored its third goal on a three-yard shot by Chris Whalen during the 71st minute (70:34). Whalen earned the goal after collecting a rebound from a teammate's (David Radtke) missed shot. The goal was Whalen's first of the season.

UW-Oshkosh, which jumped out to a 2-0 lead for the fourth straight match, totaled 17 shots against the Pioneers. The four shots by Michael Dugan and the two each from Efthimiou, Radtke, Trent Allison and Jonathan Stanley paced the Titans.

Carroll University (4-5-1) was held to just six shots and only three shots on goal. Caden Pruitt led the Pioneers with two shots, one on goal.

UW-Oshkosh goalkeeper Sam Gabrilska saved three shots during his 78 minutes (77:41) of action. Nick Barry replaced Gabrilska for the game's final 12 minutes (12:19) and didn't face a shot. Together, they recorded UW-Oshkosh's fourth shutout of the season.

Carroll University recorded six goalkeeping saves, including five by Nick Drew who played the final 73 minutes (73:11) after replacing Ramirez. The Pioneers also had a defender stop a UW-Oshkosh shot near the goal.

UW-Oshkosh opens WIAC play at UW-Superior on Saturday (Oct. 4).
