Saints Strike Twice In First Half To Defeat Titans

The College of St. Scholastica (Minn.) men's soccer team scored twice within a six-minute span in the first half and went on to defeat UW-Oshkosh, 2-0, on Saturday (Sept. 6) at J. J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium.

The game was a matchup between two teams that participated in the 2013 NCAA Division III tournament. UW-Oshkosh, which entered Saturday's contest ranked 21st in the country, allowed its first goals of the season and suffered its first shutout loss since Sept. 4, 2012.

Following a UW-Oshkosh foul, The College of St. Scholastica's Tom Corcoran opened the scoring on a free kick from 18 yards in the 21st minute (20:41). The Saints added their second goal on Jonny Winter's goal from six yards out during the 27th minute (26:24).

UW-Oshkosh attempted 11 shots, including eight in the first half. The College of St. Scholastica took 11 of its 12 shots in the first half. The Titans had a 3-1 advantage in corner kicks.

Jonathan Stanley led UW-Oshkosh with four shots, including two on goal. Scott Brugioni also had two shots on goal for the Titans (3-1).

Winter launched three shots for the The College of St. Scholastica (2-1), while Corcoran, Andrew Jenkins and Ben Phillips fired two each.

UW-Oshkosh goalkeeper Nick Barry saved four shots and a Titan defender one. Jacob Ballheimer stopped five shots for The College of St. Scholastica.

The Titans play their next four matches on the road, beginning with Friday's (Sept. 12) game at Augsburg College (Minn.).
