Titans Record Sixth Shutout Of Season

UW-Oshkosh used second-half goals by Tony Starnes and Chris Whalen to defeat the St. Norbert College men's soccer team, 2-0, on Wednesday (Oct. 2) at J. J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium.

Both UW-Oshkosh players scored on headers from close range, including Starnes' five-yard shot that gave the Titans a 1-0 lead during the 46th minute (45:43) of play. Passes from Sam Ramirez and Trent Allison set up Starnes' goal.

UW-Oshkosh, which entered the match ranked 13th in the NCAA Division III by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America, took a 2-0 lead when Whalen scored on a three-yard shot in the game's 79th minute (78:33). The goal came after he snatched a loose ball from in front of the St. Norbert College net.

UW-Oshkosh's defense was stingy as it allowed the Green Knights (3-6-2) just four shots and one corner kick. St. Norbert College had three shots on goal, attempts by Nathan Angell, Sam Lamers and Kirill Vasilenko.

The Titans (6-0-4) totaled 18 shots and earned seven corner kicks. UW-Oshkosh was led by the four shots from Elisa Efthimiou, three from Chris Kurth and the two from both Starnes and Kirby Allen.

UW-Oshkosh goalkeeper Nick Barry saved three shots for his first shutout of the season. Sam Lisheron stopped three shots for St. Norbert College, which also had a defender record a save.

UW-Oshkosh's seventh straight win over St. Norbert College improved the Titans' lead in the all-time series to 25-5-1.

The Titans entertain Augsburg College (Minn.) on Saturday (Oct. 5) at J. J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium.
