Bio

Ben Stelzer is in his second season as an assistant coach with the UW-Oshkosh men’s basketball program.

Stelzer scouted opponents and worked with the guards last season, when UW-Oshkosh compiled a 25-8 record and advanced to the NCAA Division III Championship final. 

Stelzer attended Michigan Technological University, where he was a highly decorated basketball player for the NCAA Division II Huskies from 2012-15.

Stelzer’s biggest collection of awards came during the 2014-15 season when he helped Michigan Tech to a 19-9 record and a third straight trip to the NCAA tournament by averaging 22.1 points per contest.

Stelzer was named an All-American by the National Basketball Coaches Association that season while being chosen as the Player of the Year in both the Midwest Region and Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. He was also selected to Academic All-America Second Team by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

Stelzer scored 1,755 points, including a school-record 363 3-point baskets, during his 118-game (115 starts) collegiate career. His point total is the seventh-highest in Michigan Tech history.

Following his graduation from Michigan Tech in 2015, Stelzer played one professional season in Spain for Leyma Basquet Coruña. Stelzer then returned to Michigan Tech and served as a graduate assistant coach for the Huskies during the 2016-17 basketball season.

Stelzer attended Manitowoc Roncalli High School, where he helped the Jets to two conference championships and three state tournament appearances in basketball. The two-time all-state selection ranks 37th in Wisconsin high school basketball history with 1,986 career points.

Stelzer and his wife, Emily, live in Appleton.
