Titans Receive National Team Of The Week Basketball Award

Defending national champion UW-Oshkosh was named the first NCAA Division III men's basketball award winner in the National Association of Basketball Coaches' (NABC) Team of the Week program for the 2019-20 season.

UW-Oshkosh, ranked second in the country by D3hoops.com, earned the recognition following its 76-66 victory at third-ranked North Central College (Ill.) on Nov. 12. The award was for games played Nov. 11-17.

Joining UW-Oshkosh as a NABC Team of the Week honoree were NCAA Division I Evansville University (Ind.) and NCAA Division II Wingate University (N.C.). Also recognized were Missouri Baptist University from the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics and South Georgia State College from the National Junior College Athletic Association.

UW-Oshkosh never trailed North Central College after scoring the first four points of the game. The Titans extended their lead to 25-15 and owned a 45-33 advantage at halftime on the way to maintaining at least a five-point cushion for the final 34 minutes of play.

UW-Oshkosh made 10 of its first 13 field goal attempts against the Cardinals (0-1) and went 5-for-5 from 3-point range during the opening 10 minutes of the game.

Sophomore Eric Peterson led the Titans to the win by recording career highs of 18 points, 12 rebounds and five assists. He finished the game shooting 7-for-11 from the field.

UW-Oshkosh senior Adam Fravert added 15 points, eight rebounds, two steals and two blocks for his 51st career double-digit scoring effort.

UW-Oshkosh connected on 9 of 19 attempts (47.3 percent) from beyond the 3-point arc as Fravert buried three long-range jumpers and Peterson two. North Central College shot just 26.1 percent (6-23) from 3-point range.

The Titans ended the first meeting between the teams since 2004 with advantages of 47.6 (30-63) to 40.6 (26-64) percent in field goal percentage, 40-39 in rebounds, 5-3 in steals and 7-10 in turnovers.

North Central College, which reached the second round of the NCAA postseason last year, held edges of 11-10 in assists and 5-4 in blocks.

UW-Oshkosh, which also appeared in the 2018 Division III Championship game, is led by second-year head coach Matt Lewis.

The Titans look to improve their season record to 3-0 with a win tonight (Nov. 19) at Carthage College. UW-Oshkosh opened its 2019-20 season with a 74-67 victory at 17th-ranked Augustana College (Ill.) on Nov. 9.
