Titans Victorious In Menominee Nation Arena Debut

All five UW-Oshkosh starters scored in double figures as the nationally ranked Titans defeated Concordia University Wisconsin, 90-68, in a men's basketball contest held Sunday (Dec. 30) at Menominee Nation Arena in Oshkosh.

UW-Oshkosh, which was playing at the G League home of the Milwaukee Bucks for the first time, improved its season record to 10-1 by winning its ninth straight game since a Nov. 17 loss (86-74) to Wheaton College (Ill.). The Titans entered Sunday's contest ranked sixth in the NCAA Division III by D3hoops.com.

Titan Adam Fravert notched his second double-double of the season by counting 15 points, 11 rebounds (10 defensive), six assists, two blocked shots and a pair of steals. He scored 11 points in the second half, including a trio of 3-point baskets in four attempts.

Ben Boots and Jack Flynn led UW-Oshkosh in scoring with 17 points apiece. Boots also contributed seven rebounds and six assists while Flynn added seven rebounds, one assist and one blocked shot. Flynn made six of his eight shots from the field and five of his six free throws.

The Titans also received 15 points, seven rebounds and three assists from Brett Wittchow and 10 points, five rebounds and two assists from Connor Duax.

David Vlotho scored five points and Brian Wilman four off the UW-Oshkosh bench while reserve Eric Peterson collected six rebounds.

Concordia University Wisconsin (5-4), which was playing UW-Oshkosh for the first time since Dec. 29, 2012, was led by the 18 points, seven rebounds and four assists from Jordan Johnson.

The Falcons also acquired 13 points, four rebounds and two assists from Andrew Fratzke and 12 points and one rebound from Josh Hau.

UW-Oshkosh, which has won 25 of its last 28 games played during the months of November and December, jumped to a 23-12 lead over the Falcons with 7:56 left in the first half. The Titans built their advantage by connecting on 9 of 17 shots from the field, converting 3 of 4 free throws, collecting 16 of the 22 rebounds and limiting Concordia University Wisconsin to just four made field goals in 18 attempts.

UW-Oshkosh outscored the Falcons, 17-10, the remainder of the first half to take a 40-22 lead to intermission. The Titans were led during the opening 20 minutes of play by the 11 points, five rebounds and four assists from Boots and the 10 points and five rebounds from both Flynn and Wittchow.

UW-Oshkosh constructed a 51-29 lead with 17:06 left in the second half before the Falcons scored 12 of the next 16 points to cut their deficit to 55-41 with 13:56 remaining.

The Titans steadily increased their lead after Concordia University Wisconsin's charge and held a 79-48 advantage with 5:49 to play. UW-Oshkosh's 24-7 scoring run featured a string of 12 straight points, including five by Fravert, that made the score 71-43 with 9:24 left.

UW-Oshkosh led Concordia University Wisconsin, 85-54, before the Falcons scored 12 straight points to cut their deficit to 85-66 with 76 seconds remaining.

UW-Oshkosh concluded the game shooting 52.5 percent (31-59) from the field and 67.9 percent (19-28) from the free throw line. The Titans made 9 of 21 3-point shots while posting advantages in rebounds (48-21), assists (23-12) and blocked shots (6-2).

UW-Oshkosh, which has won the rebounding battle against its last 13 opponents, has scored 90-plus points in five of its last six games. The Titans scored a season-high 99 points in their win over Alma College (Mich.) on Dec. 7.

Concordia University Wisconsin shot 39.7 percent (25-63) from the field, 30.8 (4-13) behind the 3-point line and 66.7 (14-21) at the free throw stripe. The Falcons had just nine turnovers compared to the Titans' 13.

Sunday's game was the third for Concordia University Wisconsin against a WIAC opponent. The Falcons earlier lost road decisions of 74-60 to UW-Platteville and 89-70 to UW-Whitewater.

UW-Oshkosh opens its 14-game WIAC schedule on Wednesday (Jan. 2) in Kolf Sports Center against UW-Platteville.
