Three Titans Named To NABC Honors Court
The UW-Oshkosh men's basketball team had three players named to the 2017-18 National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Honors Court.
The honored Titans were junior guards Kyle Beyak and Ben Boots and senior guard Charlie Noone. Noone was also a member of last year's Honors Court.
The NABC Honors Court recognizes student-athletes for their outstanding achievement on the basketball hardwood and in the classroom.
In order to be named to the Honors Court, student-athletes must be a junior or senior academically and own a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.20 or higher from schools competing in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) or the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA).
Beyak owns a 3.23 cumulative GPA as a radiological science major. The Prospect High School (Mount Prospect, Ill.) graduate is a three-time member of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Scholastic Honor Roll.
Beyak played in 30 games this past year, including three as a starter, and averaged 1.7 points, 1.0 rebounds and 0.8 assists per contest. He scored a season-high eight points with two rebounds and two assists during UW-Oshkosh's 93-72 NCAA Division III postseason win over Emory University (Ga.) on March 9.
Beyak has totaled 118 points, 63 rebounds, 52 assists and 15 3-point baskets during his 67-game UW-Oshkosh career.
Boots holds a 3.43 cumulative GPA as a finance major. The Kimberly High School graduate was also a three-time member of the WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll.
Boots received a pair of NCAA Division III All-Central Region awards this past season, including first team recognition by the NABC. He also acquired all-region second team accolades from D3hoops.com and a second straight All-WIAC first team citation.
Boots started all 33 games this past year and averaged a team-high 16 points, 4.4 assists and 1.4 steals per contest. He paced the WIAC with 529 points, 145 assists and a 2.20 assist-to-turnover ratio.
Boots had 29 double-digit scoring efforts this past season, including a career-high 36 points with six assists during the Titans' 95-88 overtime win over Augustana College (Ill.) in the national tournament quarterfinals on March 10. He also tallied 25 points against Ripon College on Dec. 30 and 24 points with five rebounds and four assists during UW-Oshkosh's 78-72 loss to Nebraska Wesleyan University in the national championship game on March 17.
Boots has averaged 13.4 points, 3.3 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 1.1 steals during his 89-game UW-Oshkosh career. He ranks 17th in UW-Oshkosh history with 1,194 career points. Boots surpassed the 1,000-point career milestone against UW-La Crosse on Feb. 10.
Noone possesses a 3.51 cumulative GPA as an accounting major. The Lourdes Academy (Oshkosh) graduate was a co-recipient of the 2018 WIAC Men's Basketball Max Sparger Scholar-Athlete Award. Noone is a four-time WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll member.
Noone started 29 of the Titans' 33 games this past year and averaged 10.2 points and 2.4 rebounds per contest. He made a WIAC-leading 85 3-point baskets while ranking 14th in 3-point field goal percentage (.395) and 23rd in scoring.
Noone had 14 games this past year with double-digit scoring, including a career-best 32-point outing with five assists during UW-Oshkosh's NCAA postseason win over Emory University on March 9. He also scored 20 points during the Titans' 77-57 victory over Willamette University (Ore.) on Dec. 21.
Noone appeared in 115 games during his UW-Oshkosh career, including 82 as a starter. His career averages include 9.9 for scoring, 2.4 for rebounds and 1.3 for assists. Noone ranks 23rd in UW-Oshkosh history with 1,133 career points. He also surpassed the 1,000-point career milestone against UW-La Crosse on Feb. 10.
Noone received All-WIAC first team honors during the 2016-17 season and all-league honorable mention recognition during the 2015-16 campaign.
UW-Oshkosh compiled a 25-8 record this past season and won five straight NCAA Division III postseason games on the road or on a neutral court before losing its national championship game decision to Nebraska Wesleyan University in Salem, Va. The Titans' 20-win season was the seventh in program history.
The WIAC had nine student-athletes named to the 2017-18 NABC Honors Court, including four from UW-River Falls.
