Titans, Vikings To Play Exhibition Basketball Game For Hurricane Relief

A Fox Valley rivalry renews, this time for charity, as the UW-Oshkosh and Lawrence University men's basketball teams play an exhibition game on Monday (Nov. 6). Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. in Kolf Sports Center.

Admission is free and donations will be collected for the American Red Cross and its efforts to help people and areas affected by the recent hurricanes in southern United States and the Caribbean.

UW-Oshkosh and Lawrence University requested a waiver from the NCAA earlier this week to play an exhibition game. It was granted provided all the proceeds go to hurricane relief efforts.

Fans in attendance will be asked to donate to the American Red Cross during the game. Donations can be made by texting REDCROSS to 90999 to give $10 to American Red Cross Disaster Relief. Charges will appear on the account holder's wireless bill, or be deducted from the account holder's prepaid balance. All purchases must be authorized by the account holder. Donors must be 18 years of age or have parental permission to participate. Message and data rates may apply. Text STOP to 90999 to stop. Text HELP to 90999 for help. The Titans and Vikings have met 10 times in regular-season games since the 2001-02 season, with the most recent being a 75-66 UW-Oshkosh victory on Nov. 24, 2010 in Oshkosh.

UW-Oshkosh sixth-year head coach Pat Juckem returns 12 letter winners from last year's team that compiled a 17-11 record, shared second place in the WIAC standings, and participated in the NCAA Division III postseason for the second straight season.

Senior guard Charlie Noone, and junior guards Ben Boots and Brett Wittchow headline UW-Oshkosh's returnees.

Boots and Noone earned All-WIAC first team accolades a year ago after combining to make 149 3-pointers. Boots led the Titans with his average of 13.8 points per game while Noone averaged 13.5 and Wittchow 10.3.

Joel DePagter enters his 11th season as Lawrence University's head coach. The Vikings welcome back 13 letter winners from last year's squad that tallied a 9-13 record and finished fifth in the Midwest Conference.

Lawrence University's four returning starters include seniors Jeremy Stephani and Ben Peterson. Stephani, a guard, averaged 13.7 points and 3.8 rebounds per game while Peterson, a forward, averaged 11.6 points and 5 rebounds per contest.

Juckem and DePagter both attended Lawrence University.

Juckem is a 1995 Lawrence University graduate and was a basketball and football standout for the Vikings. DePagter, who played five basketball games for UW-Oshkosh during the 1994-95 season, is a former Midwest Conference Basketball Player of the Year who led the Vikings to the 1997 Midwest Conference championship before graduating in 1998.

Both teams open their regular season with home games on Nov. 15. UW-Oshkosh will host Benedictine University (Ill.) in Kolf Sports Center while Lawrence University hosts Wisconsin Lutheran College in Alexander Gymnasium.
