Olson Named All-WIAC First Team
UW-Oshkosh's Alex Olson has been named to the 2015 All-WIAC Men's Basketball Team.
The junior guard was among 12 first-team selections, including repeat honorees KJ Evans and Quardell Young of UW-Whitewater. Olson earned his first all-conference citation and becomes the 32nd Titan to receive the honor.
Olson started 27 of the 28 games that he played in and averaged 15.3 points, 4.0 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 2.1 steals per contest. He shot 43 percent (137-340) from the field, 34.8 percent (46-132) from beyond the 3-point arc and 62.4 percent (88-141) from the free throw line.
In WIAC statistical rankings, Olson lists second in steals, fourth in scoring, eighth in 3-point field goals, 12th in assists and 17th in rebounding.
Olson scored in double figures 22 times this season and eclipsed the 20-point mark eight times. He had 30 points and 10 rebounds in a 94-72 win over UW-Stout for his second double-double of the year. Olson produced his first double-double of the season with a 21-point, 10 rebound performance in a 66-60 victory over UW-Stout.
Olson's 78-game UW-Oshkosh career includes totals of 806 points, 270 rebounds, 148 assists, 124 steals and 78 3-point baskets.
The remaining nine players on this year's All-WIAC First Team were Tyson Kalien of UW-Eau Claire; Jake Manning and Jim Stocki of UW-Platteville; Jon Christensen and Grant Erickson of UW-River Falls; Alex Richard, Joe Ritchay and Austin Ryf of UW-Stevens Point; and Steve Egan of UW-Whitewater.
Collecting honorable mention recognition were Lewis Mau of UW-Eau Claire; Jared Staege and Cale Zuiker of UW-La Crosse; Jordan Lutz and Stephen Pelkofer of UW-Stevens Point; Jarvis Ragland of UW-Stout; Ty Ketz and Zach Schradle of UW-Superior; and Cody Odegaard of UW-Whitewater.
Young was named the league's Player of the Year. Sharing WIAC Coach of the Year honors were Jeff Berkhof of UW-River Falls and Bob Semling of UW-Stevens Point.
UW-Oshkosh completed the 2015 season with a 16-12 record. The 16 wins were the most for the Titans since 2009. UW-Oshkosh finished fifth in the WIAC with an 8-8 record and advanced to the championship game of the league's tournament for the first time since 2003.
