Football Team Assists Veterans On Yellow Ribbon Honor Flight

Members of the UW-Oshkosh football program assisted Vietnam-era war veterans onto the Yellow Ribbon Honor Flight to Washington, D.C., from the Experimental Aircraft Association's AirVenture in Oshkosh on July 27 and again when they returned later that evening.

Approximately 100 veterans took the day-long tour of memorials in the Washington, D.C., area before returning to Whitman Regional Airport in Oshkosh.

It was the ninth year that the UW-Oshkosh football program helped escort veterans. Players and staff started their day at 4 a.m. and returned at 6:30 p.m., when the flight returned to thousands of well-wishers.

This was the football program's first community service event of the 2018-19 season. Head coach Pat Cerroni's team closed out the 2017-18 academic year volunteering a record-high 1,009 hours in and around the Fox Valley to mark the second consecutive year that it broke the 1,000-hour plateau.

The entire UW-Oshkosh Athletics Department volunteered 4,125 hours last year.
