UW-Oshkosh To Host High School All-Star Football Games

The state's top senior players from the 2017 high school football season showcase their talents when UW-Oshkosh hosts the 42nd Annual Wisconsin Football Coaches Association (WFCA) All-Star Classic on Saturday (July 21) at J. J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium.

The event features three all-star games, including an 8-Man contest that kicks off the schedule at 10 a.m. Players will compete in the Division 4-7 game at 1:30 p.m. and the Division 1-3 contest at 5 p.m.

The 8-Man game, which debuted in 2015, kicks off the day of football. Luck's Ryan Humpal will coach the North team and Oakfield's Corey Rickert the South.

Head coaches in the Division 4-7 contest are St. Croix Central's Tony DiSalvo for the North and Clinton's Jeff Spiwak for the South. The Division 1-3 head coaches are Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln's Tony Biolo for the North and Evansville's Ron Grovesteen for the South.

Among the players participating in the Division 4-7 game are Max Barreau, Lucas Brisky and Jacob Heyroth from Division 4 state champion Lodi; Marcus Glodowski and Bryce Holderman from Division 5 state champion Amherst; McKinley Buetow and Clay Schueffner from Division 6 state champion Saint Mary's Springs; and Garrett Krueger from Division 7 state champion Bangor.

The Division 1-3 contest features Nathan Endries and Alec Rosner from Division 1 state champion Kimberly; Lucas Statz and Nolan Thole from Division 2 state champion Waunakee; and Billy Brown, Averie Habas and Arik Johnson from Division 3 state champion Rice Lake.

All six teams began practicing Sunday (July 15), with the North squads honing their skills at UW-Oshkosh and the South teams at UW-Whitewater.

Last year, the North won the 8-Man game, 32-20, while the South captured the Division 1-3 and Division 4-7 contests by scores of 10-0 and 25-20, respectively. The Division 1-3 game was cancelled with 31 seconds left in the third quarter due to excessive lightning/rain.

The WFCA All-Star Classic is being held in Oshkosh for the 37th time. The event was held at Madison's Camp Randall Stadium from 1999 to 2002 and Menasha's Calder Stadium in 2004.

Fund-raising efforts and proceeds from the games have gone to the Children's Hospital of Wisconsin. Over the past 15 years, nearly $4 million has been raised to benefit patient care programs.

The three North teams will hold 9 a.m. practice sessions Tuesday (July 17), Wednesday (July 18) and Thursday (July 19) at UW-Oshkosh's J. J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium. Patients and representatives from Children's Hospital of Wisconsin will meet with the three North teams at 3 p.m. on Tuesday at J. J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium.

The Divisions 4-7 and Division 1-3 games will be televised live on Spectrum Sports.
