Five Titans Named To Hampshire Honor Society
UW-Oshkosh senior football players Beau Ash, Dylan Hecker, Brett Kasper, Stephen Kintz and Ty Summers were named members of the 2018 Hampshire Honor Society by the National Football Foundation & College Hall of Fame (NFF).
The NFF Hampshire Honor Society is comprised of college football players from all divisions of competition who each maintained a cumulative 3.2 grade point average (GPA) or better throughout his career.
An all-time high 1,251 players from a record-tying 302 schools qualified for membership in the society's 12th year.
UW-Oshkosh was one of four WIAC football programs to have players recognized by the NFF. UW-Stout had eight players earn membership in the Hampshire Honor Society while UW-Whitewater had four and UW-Stevens Point two.
With the assistance of Ash, Hecker, Kasper, Kintz and Summers, UW-Oshkosh captured the WIAC title this past season while compiling a 12-1 record and advancing to the semifinal round of the NCAA Division III Championship. In 2016, the five Titans helped UW-Oshkosh to a 13-2 record and a berth in the championship game of the Division III postseason.
Ash, a running back, owns a 3.257 GPA as a special education major. The four-year letter winner played in 49 games (5 starts) during his UW-Oshkosh career and rushed for 507 yards and four touchdowns. He also caught six passes for 63 yards and two touchdowns while compiling 27 tackles. In 2017, Ash collected three passes for 40 yards and one score while counting 11 tackles, including eight solo.
Hecker, a running back, holds a 3.419 GPA as a human services major. The four-year letter winner appeared in 43 games (38 starts) for the Titans and rushed for 3,582 yards and a school-record 61 touchdowns. He also caught 49 passes for 504 yards and two scores while throwing for 229 yards and a pair of touchdowns. In 2017, Hecker received all-region and all-conference honors after rushing 166 times for 988 yards and 16 touchdowns and catching 14 passes for 190 yards and one score.
Kasper, a quarterback, possesses a 3.375 GPA as a supply chain management major. The four-year letter winner played in 50 games (46 starts) for UW-Oshkosh and capped his record-breaking career in 2017 by being named the Gagliardi Trophy recipient as the most outstanding Division III football player. Kasper compiled a 40-6 career record as a starter en route to establishing program records with 9,786 passing yards and 89 touchdown passes. In 2017, Kasper earned his second WIAC Offensive Player of the Year award after ranking second in the country with a 189.6 passing efficiency rating. He also completed 186 of 285 passes for 3,025 yards and a school-record 34 touchdowns during his senior year.
Kintz, a linebacker, owns a 3.249 GPA as a kinesiology major. Kintz played in all 10 of his career games for the Titans during the 2017 season. He totaled 11 tackles, including seven solo, this past fall.
Summers, a center, holds a 3.282 GPA as a kinesiology major. The four-year letter winner saw action for UW-Oshkosh in 49 career contests (43 starts). In 2017, Summers collected AP Little All-America, all-region and all-conference awards after anchoring an offensive line that allowed just 13 sacks while paving the way for 16 Titans to average 5.7 yards per carry and rush for 3,118 yards and 34 touchdowns. He also played a significant role in helping UW-Oshkosh rank seventh nationally with 302 first downs and 12th with 484.5 yards per contest.
