WRST Sets Listenership Record During Titans' NCAA Football Playoff Broadcast

WRST-FM, the student-run radio station at UW-Oshkosh, set a record for online listenership during its broadcast of the NCAA Division III Football Championship semifinal between UW-Oshkosh and University of Mount Union (Ohio) on Dec. 9.

A record 1,047 unique listeners connected to the broadcast at www.wrst.org and the number of simultaneous listeners topped out at 521 in the final minutes of the game, also a new record.

The contest from J. J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium broke WRST's previous streaming record, which was set during last year's NCAA Championship semifinal against John Carroll University (Ohio).

The streaming software generates a real-time map of listeners and showed that the broadcast was being heard in 83 Wisconsin communities and in 34 other states. Moreover, many listeners were noted in Ohio, indicating that University of Mount Union fans were listening to the WRST stream.

International listeners were logged for the broadcast in Canada (2), England (2), Germany, Mexico and Taiwan.

Online listening to WRST continues to grow. Listenership for the 2016-17 fiscal year was up 121 percent from the previous year.
