UW-Oshkosh To Host High School All-Star Football Games

The state's premier senior players from the 2012 high school football season showcase their talents when UW-Oshkosh hosts the 37th Annual Wisconsin Football Coaches Association (WFCA) All-Star Classic on Saturday (July 20) at J.J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium.

Action begins at noon when the North and South teams from Division 4-7 meet. The North and South squads from Division 1-3 compete in the second game at 5 p.m.

Head coaches in the Division 4-7 contest are Clayton's Chris Berghammer for the North and Cochrane-Fountain City's Steve Lyga for the South. The Division 1-3 head coaches are Somerset's Bruce Larson for the North and Mount Horeb/Barneveld's Travis Rohrer for the South. Larson led Somerset to the Division 4 state title in 2012.

All four teams began practicing on Sunday (July 14), with the North squads honing their skills at UW-Oshkosh and the South teams working out at UW-Whitewater.

The Division 1-3 contest involves five players who will be attending UW-Oshkosh this fall to play football for the defending WIAC champion Titans.

Future UW-Oshkosh players in that game are running back Beau Ash of Waupaca, defensive lineman Ryan Fay of Wausau West, quarterback Brett Kasper of Two Rivers, linebacker Kyle Koepsel of Oak Creek and receiver Sam Menkowski of Whitnall. Koepsel was named to the Associated Press All-State Second Team in 2012.

UW-Oshkosh recruits playing in the Division 4-7 game are offensive lineman Reed Ambrosius of Freedom and quarterback Dylan Hecker of Winneconne.

Last year, the South won by scores of 37-0 in the Division 1-3 game and 25-17 in the Division 4-7 contest.

The WFCA All-Star Classic is being held in Oshkosh for the 32nd time. The contest was at Madison's Camp Randall Stadium from 1999 to 2002 and Menasha's Calder Stadium in 2004. Proceeds from the games have gone to the Children's Hospital of Wisconsin. Last year, donations totaled $369,720.
