Titans Extend Winning Streak To Seven Games

Alex Koch was a single shy of hitting for the cycle, Taylor Grimm belted a home run and three Titan pitchers combined for a six-hit shutout as the UW-Oshkosh baseball team won its seventh straight contest with an 8-0 victory over Grinnell College (Iowa) on Wednesday (March 21) in Auburndale, Fla.

Koch tallied three hits during his five at-bats, including a third-inning two-run home run that gave the Titans (8-2) a 2-0 lead. Koch also tripled in the eighth inning and put UW-Oshkosh ahead 6-0 with his run-scoring double in the ninth.

Grimm, who went 2-for-4 at the plate and joined Koch with three runs scored, singled in the third inning and extended UW-Oshkosh's lead to 4-0 with his fifth-inning home run. Grimm's home run was his team-leading fourth of the season.

The Titans' Dylan Ott contributed three hits, all singles and three runs batted in. Ott gave UW-Oshkosh a 5-0 lead in the eighth inning and an 8-0 advantage in the ninth.

UW-Oshkosh's Jensen Hinton added two hits, including a triple that led off the fourth inning.

In all, UW-Oshkosh tallied 13 hits while leaving eight runners on base, including two in the second, seventh and eighth innings.

Grinnell College (1-6) was held scoreless on six hits, all singles, by Titan pitchers Jon Maday, Chris Atwood and Alex Larson. The UW-Oshkosh shutout was the first since Colan Treml threw a two-hit complete game shutout against UW-Platteville on April 22, 2017.

Maday (1-0) allowed four hits and struck out four batters in six innings to earn the win. Atwood permitted two hits pitching the seventh and eighth innings while Larson yielded one hit pitching the ninth. Atwood struck out three of the seven batters he faced and Larson one of the four he pitched to.

Grinnell College's six hits included two by Jared Booth. The Pioneers led eight runners on base, including two in the sixth inning.

Jacob Morsch (0-1) took the pitching loss for Grinnell College. He pitched six innings and allowed seven hits and four runs with one strikeout. Morsch was followed on the mound by Gabriel Shubert for one inning, Charles Carr for 1.1 innings and Shane Comiskey for two-thirds of an inning. Shubert allowed three hits and one run, Carr two hits and three runs (two earned) and Comiskey one hit.

UW-Oshkosh, which owns its longest winning streak since an eight-game victory string in 2015, plays Benedictine University (Ill.) on Thursday (Ill.) in Auburndale.
