Titans Record Sweep Of Polar Bears
Colan Treml recorded his first career shutout in the opener while Jon Maday earned his first career pitching victory in the nightcap as the UW-Oshkosh baseball team won a pair of seven-inning games against Bowdoin College (Maine) on Wednesday (March 22) in Auburndale, Fla.
Treml (2-0) allowed just six hits and only two Polar Bears to reach second base during UW-Oshkosh's 10-0 win in the first game. Treml faced 26 batters, only five over the minimum, while recording three strikeouts with no walks.
Maday (1-0) relieved starter Lucas Gregory in the fourth inning of the second contest and pitched 2.1 innings with just two hits and one run allowed. He faced nine batters, only two over the minimum, and retired one by a strikeout to help UW-Oshkosh register a 6-1 victory.
Gregory scattered seven hits and struck out two batters during his 3.2 scoreless innings of activity. Alex Larson pitched the final inning for the Titans and held Bowdoin College scoreless on one hit.
UW-Oshkosh (5-4) scored in the first inning of the opener as Johnny Eagan hit a two-out single to score Zack Radde, who also singled.
The Titans added three runs in the third inning, all on a bases-loaded double by Dylan Ott. UW-Oshkosh loaded the bases on singles by Radde and Eagan and a walk to Andy Brahier.
UW-Oshkosh made the score 6-0 with a two-run single by Ott in the fifth inning. Ott went 3-for-4 in the opener with a career-best five runs batted in.
The Titans concluded their scoring on a two-run double by Radde, a double by Kozlowski and a sacrifice fly by Brahier in the sixth inning. Radde went 3-for-4 in the game with two runs scored and a pair of RBIs.
UW-Oshkosh's 14 hits also included two each from Eagan, Kozlowski and Sam Schwenn.
Sawyer Billings had two of the Polar Bears' six hits.
Connor Lee (1-1) started on the mound for Bowdoin College (4-8) and took the loss after pitching four innings of the opener. Lee gave up eight hits and four runs before being relieved by Seamus Keenan in the fifth inning. Duncan Finigan and James Speer both pitched during the sixth inning for the Polar Bears.
The second contest was scoreless until Eagan drove in Radde with a two-out double in the third inning. Radde scored all the way from first base after walking during the inning's second at-bat.
UW-Oshkosh doubled its advantage in the top of the sixth inning as Kozlowski singled with one out to score Eagan, who reached on a fielder's choice.
Bowdoin College answered back in the bottom half of the sixth inning as Cody Todesco doubled with one out to score Ben Suski, who reached first base after being hit by a Maday pitch.
The Titans blew the game open in the seventh inning by scoring four runs on five hits. UW-Oshkosh scored on a two-run single by Radde, a single by Kozlowski and a sacrifice fly by Brahier.
UW-Oshkosh marked 11 hits in the nightcap, including two each by Kozlowski, Schwenn and Logan Reckert.
Bowdoin College, which left two runners on base during the first through fourth innings, counted 11 hits. Evann Dumont-LaPoint had three hits and Todesco two for the Polar Bears.
Colby Lewis (1-1) pitched the first five innings for Bowdoin College and took the loss after allowing five hits and two runs with three strikeouts.
Ryan Dixon pitched the sixth inning and both Kyle Stanley and Connor Rooney the seventh for the Polar Bears. Stanley was tagged for five hits and four runs allowed in one-third of an inning pitched.
UW-Oshkosh will play the University of St. Thomas (Minn.) on Thursday (March 23) in Auburndale.
