All-WIAC Baseball Team Includes Six Titans

First-team selections Andy Brahier, John Eagan and Peter Jewell highlighted the six UW-Oshkosh players named to the 2015 All-WIAC Baseball Team.

Brahier and Eagan, both freshmen, lead the WIAC with 68 hits, sparking a lineup that paced the league with 476 hits and set a school record with 96 stolen bases.

Brahier hit a team-leading .384 with 15 doubles, 44 runs batted in, and 86 total bases. The first baseman also led the Titans with 22 multi-hit and 11 multiple-RBI contests in his 43 starts. His doubles and runs batted in totals list third in the conference while his total bases are fifth. Defensively, Brahier committed just five errors in a WIAC-best 371 chances.

Eagan leads the conference with 49 runs from atop the UW-Oshkosh batting order. He ranks second in the WIAC with 23 stolen bases and third with 27 walks, which contributed to a team-high .462 on-base percentage. Eagan batted .382 with 12 doubles, 26 runs batted in, and 82 total bases in 43 starts. Defensively, the center fielder did not commit an error in 88 chances.

Jewell tied for the team lead with five victories and paced the UW-Oshkosh pitching staff with a 2.72 earned run average, five complete games and 72.2 innings. The junior left-hander pitched at least seven innings during each of his last five starts of the season, including a shutout against UW-Superior on April 18. Jewell held a 5-4 record in 10 starts with 41 strikeouts while ranking fourth in the league in innings pitched and fifth with just 13 walks.

Jewell's three-year totals include an 11-5 record, a 3.13 earned run average and 93 strikeouts in 129.1 innings pitched. He has appeared in 32 games, 16 as a starter.

UW-Oshkosh sophomore third baseman Tyler Kozlowski received All-WIAC honorable mention recognition for the second straight season. Titan pitchers Ben Messenger, a junior, and Jesse Sustachek, a freshman, joined him on the honorable mention squad.

Kozlowski batted .307 with 34 runs, 30 runs batted in, eight doubles, eight stolen bases and a WIAC-best 29 walks in 43 starts.

Messenger won three of his last four starts and concluded the season with a 4-5 record and a 3.91 earned run average in 69 innings pitched. He ranks fifth in the WIAC with 46 strikeouts and paced the team with 11 starts.

Sustachek wrapped up the season with a team-best 5-0 record, one save, a 3.62 earned run average and 26 strikeouts in 37.1 innings pitched. He made three starts among his team-high 14 appearances.

Rounding out the 20-player All-WIAC First Team were Justin Anderson, Ben Cejka, Alex Cordova, Taylor Kohlwey and Jameson Sadowske from UW-La Crosse; Mitch Beau, Bobby Gregorich, Cody Hanke and Riley Spetz from UW-Stevens Point; Hayden Bowe from UW-Stout; and Luke Bachar, Steve Chamberlain, Colin Grove, Mike Mierow, Curtis Morgan, Mikole Pierce and Casey Power from UW-Whitewater.

The WIAC named Hanke as its Position Player of the Year and Beau as its Pitcher of the Year. UW-Whitewater's John Vodenlich was selected as the league's Coach of the Year.

UW-Oshkosh won 17 of its last 22 games to finish the season with a 26-17 record. The Titans placed fourth in the WIAC standings with a 14-10 record and third at the WIAC Tournament.

2015 All-WIAC Baseball Team
