Rude Limits Vikings To Just One Hit

Adam Rude pitched a one-hitter to lead the UW-Oshkosh baseball team to a 7-0 non-conference victory over Lawrence University on Tuesday (April 28) at Tiedemann Field.

Rude (3-2) held the Vikings hitless until a leadoff single in the eighth inning. Rude, who took a no-hitter into the fifth inning at Ripon College in his last start, struck out four in winning his second straight game and earning his first shutout of the season.

Lawrence University's Travis Weber laced a clean single through the left side to break up Rude's bid for the 11th no-hitter in program history. Tom Petri pitched UW-Oshkosh's last complete-game no-hitter, in 1995.

Lawrence University had at least one baserunner in all but the third and ninth frames as the Titans committed three errors, and Rude hit two batters and walked two. However, the UW-Oshkosh (21-14) defense turned three inning-ending double plays to allow Rude to face four over the minimum. Just one Viking reached second base, in the top of the seventh.

Andy Brahier and John Eagan paced the Titans with two hits and two runs batted in apiece. It was Brahier's team-leading 19th multi-hit and ninth multiple-RBI game of the season. Jack Paulson added two more of UW-Oshkosh's 13 hits.

Rude got all the support he would need when Brahier plated Eagan with a two-out single in the first inning. The Titans added three more runs after two outs in the second frame on Eagan's two-run single and Jacob Pohlman's RBI single.

UW-Oshkosh hit a combined 8-for-11 (.727) in the first two innings off of Lawrence University (10-22) starting pitcher Kyle Duex, but managed just five total hits during the rest of the game against five Vikings relievers.

Skyler Bohn lifted a sacrifice fly in the fifth inning to plate the fifth UW-Oshkosh run, and the Titans took a 7-0 lead on two unearned runs off of Vikings reliever Philip Clark in the sixth frame.

Duex (1-2) was charged with the loss for the Vikings, yielding four runs on eight hits in two innings pitched.

The Titans won for the 23rd time in 24 all-time meetings with Lawrence University.

UW-Oshkosh, which has won 10 of its last 11 contests, remains at home to face Ripon College for a non-conference game on Wednesday (April 29). The Titans defeated the Red Hawks, 5-2, on April 22 in Ripon.
