Titans Post Win Over Red Hawks

Adam Rude pitched seven strong innings to lead the UW-Oshkosh baseball team to a 5-2 nonconference victory at Ripon College on Wednesday (April 22).

Rude (2-2) lost his no-hit bid on an infield single with two outs in the fifth inning but picked up his second win of the season after allowing two runs on six hits. He struck out five batters and walked two.

Lucas Gregory picked up his first collegiate save after working two hitless innings of relief. He recorded three strikeouts against two walks.

UW-Oshkosh (17-13), which won for the 27th time in 30 meetings with Ripon College, never trailed after scoring a pair of runs in the first frame on a two-out single by Logan Reckert, who ended the game 3-for-4 with two doubles and two runs.

The Titans increased their lead to 3-0 on a double-play groundout in the fourth inning and to 5-0 on Cooper Lang's two-run single in the sixth.

Ripon College's Nick Uhen beat out a ground ball to shortstop to break up Rude's no-hitter, and Michael Polcyn broke up the shutout with a two-run double with one out in the sixth inning.

Rude pitched around two singles in the seventh inning before being lifted following a leadoff single in the eighth.

Ripon College brought the potential tying run to the plate with one out in the eighth frame, but Gregory recorded a strikeout and a fly ball to end the threat.

Lang and Andy Brahier both added two of the Titans' 11 hits. However, UW-Oshkosh's Tyler Kozlowski had his 15-game hitting snapped.

Ripon College starting pitcher Drew Slade (0-2) took the loss, allowing three runs in 4.1 innings.

Nick Kita paced the Red Hawks (10-12) with two of his team's six hits.

It was the first meeting between the teams since 2003.

UW-Oshkosh returns to conference play when it travels to UW-Stout for a doubleheader on Saturday (April 25).
