Eagles, Titans Split Pair Of Close Contests

Trey Demler smacked two home runs as UW-Oshkosh split its doubleheader at UW-La Crosse on Saturday (May 3).

The Eagles prevailed in the opener, 5-3, behind three hits from Taylor Kohlwey. Demler's two-run shot in the seventh inning gave the Titans a 3-2 triumph during the nightcap.

Demler was the third batter in game one, and he launched a solo homer to right field for the 1-0 lead.

UW-La Crosse (22-14/14-7 WIAC) quickly tied the score in the first inning on a sacrifice fly from Travis Buxton-Verstegen. Then during the third, Cole Cefalu hit a two-run homer to go ahead.

Shane Adler stroked a double in the Eagles' half of the eighth. Kohlwey came up later and connected for a two-run shot that made it 5-2.

UW-Oshkosh's scoring concluded with a run-scoring groundout by Zack Whalen and an RBI single from Zac Peterson.

Ben Cejka went eight innings, striking out 10, for the victory. Jameson Sadowske tossed the final inning for a save. The loss went to Travis Sindles, who allowed four runs over 7.1 frames.

During game two, UW-Oshkosh's 1-2-3 batters combined for seven hits.

UW-La Crosse gained a 1-0 lead when Josh Rowles scored on a groundout in the third inning.

The Titans equaled the score on a Trent Whitcomb single in the top of the fifth. After Tyler Kozlowski's seventh-inning single, Demler blasted his round-tripper to take the 3-1 lead.

Joe Pavlovich (save) fired the final three innings with four strikeouts. Peter Jewell earned the win with six innings, five K and two earned runs.

Joe Miller allowed 10 hits and three runs in seven innings for the defeat.

UW-Oshkosh (17-17/7-13 WIAC) and UW-La Crosse wrap up the regular season with a doubleheader tomorrow (May 4).
