Blue Devils Silence Titan Bats

Hayden Bowe and Patrick Gullickson allowed just one earned run in 16 innings during UW-Stout's baseball victories over UW-Oshkosh on Thursday (April 17) in Menomonie.

The opener was a 10-0 contest, with Bowe striking out five in the shutout. Gullickson then went all nine innings with six K and one ER for a 6-2 win in the nightcap.

UW-Stout (16-9/6-4 WIAC) used the long ball to go ahead in game one. Ryan Freitag launched a two-run homer during the first, while Brett Vavra marked a two-run shot in the fourth to gain the 4-0 lead.

Jared Francois put the game out of reach when he smashed a bases-clearing double in the sixth inning.

UW-Oshkosh (12-10/5-7 WIAC) left a runner on base in six of the seven innings. Luke Gajewski and Zack Whalen each finished with two hits for the Titans.

The loss went to Ben Messenger, who allowed seven ER on 11 hits over 5.1 frames.

The nightcap was scoreless until the fifth inning. That's when the Blue Devils took a 3-0 lead on a triple from Brady Burzynski and singles by Nick Nalbach and Jack Schneider.

UW-Stout tacked on three more runs during the seventh, including two on a home run from Freitag.

UW-Oshkosh received one hit from six different players, with Skyler Bohn counting an RBI single in the bottom of the ninth.

James Lacy took the loss after yielding four ER in 6.2 innings.

The Titans and Blue Devils have another twin bill scheduled for Friday (April 18).
