Pointers’ Pair Of Aces Tops Titans

JP Feyereisen and Cam Seidl allowed just three runs over 17 innings in UW-Stevens Point's doubleheader sweep of the UW-Oshkosh baseball team on Tuesday (April 1) in Mauston.

UW-Stevens Point (12-1/2-0 WIAC) is ranked second in the NCAA Division III.

Feyereisen, the 2013 WIAC Pitcher of the Year, struck out seven batters in a 4-0 shutout during game one. Seidl, the 2012 WIAC Pitcher of the Year, tallied nine strikeouts in eight innings for an 8-3 victory in the nightcap.

The first contest saw UW-Stevens Point take a 1-0 lead on a throwing error by the Titans (7-5/0-2 WIAC). Kyle McHugh then made it 2-0 with a single in the third inning.

UW-Oshkosh tallied just three hits, including back-to-back singles by Zac Peterson and Luke Gajewski during the third inning. Feyereisen escaped the jam with a strikeout and groundout.

Taylor Carlson completed the scoring with RBI singles in both the fifth and ninth innings.

Ben Messenger took the loss after allowing three runs (one earned) with six strikeouts in six innings.

McHugh was the star in game two, totaling four RBI and a WIAC-record-tying three doubles. His fourth-inning two-bagger drove home two Pointers for a 6-2 lead.

The Titans took advantage of two infield singles during the second inning. With the bases loaded, Neil Hebert grounded into a double play that put UW-Oshkosh on top, 1-0.

During the third inning, the Pointers scored four times on four hits. McHugh posted a run-scoring double before Carlson and Brandon Kranz singled in one run apiece.

Jake Dostalek had a run-scoring single in the fourth inning to pull the Titans within 6-3, but the Pointer pitchers yielded just one hit over the last four innings.

The defeat went to Joe Pavlovich, who surrendered six ER in four innings of work. Peter Jewell struck out four batters and allowed two ER in 3.1 innings of relief.

Robbie Kleman led the Titans in the second game with two hits and two runs scored. He also marked a hit in the opener.

UW-Oshkosh begins a four-game series with UW-Superior on Saturday (April 5) at Tiedemann Field.
