257 Titans Named To WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll

The Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) recognized 257 UW-Oshkosh student-athletes for achieving a 3.0 grade point average (GPA) or higher during the 2017-18 academic year.

UW-Oshkosh's selections to the WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll featured 133 student-athletes from its 11 women’s teams and 124 from its eight men’s squads. Student-athletes in multiple sports were counted only once.

UW-Oshkosh had seven student-athletes earn a perfect 4.0 GPA this past year - Logan Reckert from baseball; Stephen Kintz, James Kitscha and Ty Summers from football; Kayla Priebe from women’s golf; and Natalie Dillon and Abby Menting from softball.

UW-Oshkosh had 22 additional student-athletes reach or surpass a 3.90 GPA. That group included Andy Brahier (3.910) from baseball; Jaimee Pitt (3.925) and Chloe Pustina (3.967) from women’s basketball; Brian McKnight (3.959) from men’s cross country; Ashton Keene (3.927), Paige Schilling (3.948), Melissa Srnka (3.965) and Jessica Stamn (3.967) from women’s cross country; Beau Ash (3.965), Turner Geisthardt (3.960), Max Nowinsky (3.903) and Alex Wipperfurth (3.938) from football; Amanda McBrayer (3.931) from women’s gymnastics; Jessica Galason (3.903) and Addie Schmitz (3.934) from women’s soccer; Jordan Manthei (3.923) and Brianna Witter (3.934) from softball; Jarrett Lieder (3.927) and Josiah Vandenberg (3.965) from men’s swimming & diving; Joe Zack (3.931) from men’s track & field; Katie Hodges (3.963) from women’s volleyball; and Andrew Stengel (3.903) from wrestling. Keene, Srnka and Stamn were also members of the women's track & field team while Witter was also a participant on the women’s volleyball squad.

Overall, UW-Oshkosh's 460 student-athletes combined for a 3.075 GPA this past year to edge the school's general student population mark of 3.072. Members of the women's basketball team blended together to compile a department-best 3.567 GPA while women's cross country followed at 3.521, women's volleyball at 3.465 and women's soccer at 3.271.

Other UW-Oshkosh Athletics Academic Highlights

* This is the first year that the student-athlete GPA surpassed the general student population mark since records began with the 1999-2000 academic year.

* Women's golf has surpassed a 3.00 GPA every year since the 2009-10 season.

* Women's cross country (88 percent), football (44 percent), women's gymnastics (76 percent) and women's volleyball (87 percent) had their highest percentage of WIAC Scholar-Athletes since the 1999-2000 season.

* The 2.839 GPA of men's swimming & diving was its highest since the 2004-05 season.

* Women's basketball and wrestling (2.947) recorded their second-highest GPA ever. Women's basketball missed its all-time high by .002.
