Titan 5K Raises $2,000 For Parkinson’s Disease Class

The UW-Oshkosh men’s and women’s cross country teams would like to extend a big thank you to everyone associated with the Titan 5K held Aug. 4 in Oshkosh’s Menominee Park.

The sixth edition of the race raised $2,000 to help support a Rock Steady Boxing Class at the Oshkosh Community YMCA. The focus of the class is to help people who have Parkinson’s Disease with their movement through a non-contact boxing based curriculum.

This year's Titan 5K featured 91 runners and nearly 200 people in attendance. Each participant went home with a T-shirt, giveaway items and information about Parkinson’s Disease and the Oshkosh YMCA’s Rock Steady Boxing Class.

The 5,000-meter race was won by former UW-Oshkosh cross country and track & field member Derek Johnsrud. Johnsrud, who also won the Titan 5K in 2016, finished this year’s run with a time of 15:36.37.

Former UW-Green Bay cross country runner Mitchell Bilitz placed second to Johnsrud with a time of 15:59.92 and former UW-Oshkosh cross country and track & field member Mike Foust third in 16:16.19.

The female champion was former UW-Oshkosh cross country and track & field member Cheyenne Moore. Moore, a two-time WIAC cross country champion who finished eighth at last year’s NCAA Division III Cross Country Championship, won this year’s Titan 5K with a time of 18:42.02.

Former UW-Oshkosh cross country and track & field member McKenzie (Kelly) Klitz finished second to Moore in the women’s division with a time of 19:03.46.

The event also featured a KIDDY QUARTER, a quarter-mile Kid's Race for children 10 years of age and under. Participants in that race won sunglasses, a stuffed animal and a popsicle.
