UW-Oshkosh Finishes 28th In Directors' Cup Standings

A national championship in men’s basketball and a fourth-place finish in men’s outdoor track & field helped UW-Oshkosh rank 28th in the 2019 Learfield IMG College Directors' Cup standings.

The competition, which began in 1996, is designed to recognize the best overall NCAA Division III athletics program in the country.

UW-Oshkosh totaled 488.5 points during the 2018-19 academic year to record its 19th top-30 finish in the 24-year history of the Learfield IMG College Directors’ Cup competition.

UW-Oshkosh scored 100 points with its men’s basketball national title, 80 with its fourth-place finish in men’s outdoor track & field, 69 with its ninth-place finish in men’s indoor track & field and 64 with its ninth-place finish in women’s basketball.

The Titans also accumulated 58.5 points with their 16th-place finish in wrestling, 47.5 points with their 23rd-place finish in women’s outdoor track & field, 46.5 with their 27th-place finish in women’s outdoor track & field and 23 with their 41st-place finish in men’s swimming & diving.

UW-Oshkosh finished 37th in last year’s pursuit for the Learfield IMG College Directors’ Cup with 443.25 points, 34th in 2017 with 432.5 and 17th in 2016 with 606.5.

In addition to UW-Oshkosh, the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference had UW-Eau Claire finish 10th with 763.5 points, UW-La Crosse 13th with 620.75, UW-Whitewater 15th with 593.5, UW-Stevens Point 51st with 344.75, UW-Platteville 93rd with 210, UW-Stout 154th with 129 and UW-River Falls 232nd with 60.

Williams College (Mass.) captured its seventh straight and 22nd NCAA Division III Learfield IMG College Directors' Cup with 1,117 points. The Ephs recorded 12 top-10 national finishes, including championships in women’s soccer and women’s indoor track & field.

Johns Hopkins University (Md.) finished second to Willams College with 1,083.75 points while Washington University in St. Louis (Mo.) placed third with 1,032.75, Middlebury College (Vt.) with 941.75 and Emory University (Ga.) with 921.5.

A total of 340 schools scored points in this year’s Learfield IMG College Directors' Cup competition. Each school must count its highest NCAA Division III Championship finish in men's basketball, women’s basketball, men’s soccer, women’s soccer and 14 at-large sports (no gender or sport requirement). Each national champion received 100 points in the scoring.

UW-Oshkosh obtained top-10 finishes in 1996 (third), 1997 (fifth), 2001 (seventh), 2002 (eighth), 2003 (eighth) and 1999 (10th). The Titans other placements were 11th in 1998; 12th in 2007 & 2011; 15th in 2004; 17th in 2009, 2012, 2014 & 2016; 21st in 2008 & 2013; 23rd in 2010; 29th in 2000; 33rd in 2006; 34th in 2017; 37th in 2018; 38th in 2005; and 44th in 2015.

The Learfield IMG College Directors’ Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today.
