Lum Named Assistant Swimming & Diving Coach

Andrew Lum has joined the UW-Oshkosh athletics staff as an assistant coach for the men’s and women’s swimming & diving teams through the NCAA Division III Ethnic Minority and Women’s Internship Grant.

Lum, a former four-year member of the Willamette University (Ore.) men’s swimming team, will also assist UW-Oshkosh’s efforts in hosting NCAA Division III championships in the sports of women’s volleyball (2016) and baseball (2017).

Lum has been involved in swimming since the age of 6. The Honolulu, Hawaii, native specialized in the butterfly events while competing at Willamette University. Last year, he finished 12th in the 200-meter butterfly race at the Northwest Conference (NWC) Championship. In 2013, Lum was named the Bearcats’ Rookie of the Year.

“UW-Oshkosh swimming & diving is excited to welcome Andrew to the coaching staff,” second-year UW-Oshkosh head coach Chris Culp said. “I am thrilled to have Andrew on deck to help assist our team in reaching the next level. I believe that his experience will have an immediate impact on our men’s and women’s teams.”

During his collegiate career, Lum was named president of the student-athlete advisory committee for both Willamette University and the NWC. The three-time national scholar-athlete also interned at Willamette University’s Office of Admission and served as captain of the men’s swimming team from 2014-16.

Lum earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in exercise science from Willamette University in 2016.

The NCAA Division III Ethnic Minority and Women’s Internship Grant is designed to enhance diversity and inclusion efforts and to retain ethnic minorities and women within Division III athletics administrative and coaching staffs. In addition to the benefit gained by participating institutions, interns receive funding for professional development, memberships to professional organizations, and other enhancement initiatives.
