Carpenter Receives CoSIDA Academic All-America Honor

UW-Oshkosh’s Jordan Carpenter was named to the 2016 NCAA Division III Men’s Track & Field/Cross Country Academic All-America® First Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

A graduate student from Ashwaubenon, Carpenter was one of 15 first-team selections. A total of 46 student-athletes were recognized, with 15 also chosen to the second team and 16 to the third.

Carpenter, who received second-team mention a year ago, is the fourth UW-Oshkosh men’s track & field/cross country performer to earn CoSIDA Academic All-America® accolades multiple times. He joins a list that includes former Titans Dan Kramer (1996-97), Eamon McKenna (2002-03) and John Dewitt (2012-13).

Carpenter majored in economics and completed his undergraduate work with a 4.00 cumulative grade point average in December 2014. He currently is pursuing a master's degree in business administration.

This past spring, Carpenter earned All-America honors with his second-place finish in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championship. Last fall, Carpenter finished 13th to capture an All-America award at the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championship.

Carpenter was named the recipient of the Elite 90 at the 2014 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field and 2015 NCAA Division III Cross County championships.

The Elite 90, an award founded by the NCAA, recognizes the true essence of the student-athlete by honoring the individual who has reached the pinnacle of competition at the national championship level in his or her sport, while also achieving the highest academic standard among his or her peers. The award is presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average participating at the finals site for each of the NCAA's 90 championships.

Carpenter is a four-time member of the WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll and has been recognized on UW-Oshkosh's Dean's List every semester. He is a member of Beta Gamma Sigma Honor Society and has served as president of UW-Oshkosh's Optimist Club. Carpenter was the 2016 winner of the UW-Oshkosh John Taylor Scholar-Athlete Award.

Since the inception of the CoSIDA Academic All-America Program in 1952, 52 UW-Oshkosh student-athletes have combined to total 73 Academic All-America awards.

In order to be eligible for the Academic All-America® program, nominees must: be a starter or important reserve with legitimate athletic credentials; have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.30 (on a 4.0 scale) in both undergrad and graduate work; have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at the institution and completed at least one calendar year at the institution; and have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's games/meets.
