Jahn, Johnsrud named Scholar-Athlete Award winners

Women’s track & field athlete Stephanie Jahn and Derek Johnsrud of the men’s track & field and cross country teams were named the 2015 winners of the John Taylor Scholar-Athlete Award at the UW-Oshkosh Athletics Hall of Fame & Senior Awards Banquet on May 3.

The John Taylor Scholar-Athlete Award is presented annually to an outstanding UW-Oshkosh male and female senior letter winner who compiled a cumulative grade-point average of 3.25 or higher. The award reflects not only individual athletic accomplishments, but also embodies the ideals of team contribution, scholastic endeavor and community involvement.

Jahn was a member of UW-Oshkosh’s NCAA Division III women’s indoor track & field championship teams in 2013 and 2014. The Deerfield native contributed to both victories by running a leg on the Titans’ first-place distance medley relay squads. Jahn’s 2013 group established a national record with their time of 11:32.24.

Jahn, who lettered four times indoors and twice outdoors, also garnered indoor All-America accolades as a member of UW-Oshkosh’s distance medley relay squad in 2015 and the Titans’ 1,600-meter relay teams in 2014 and 2015.

Jahn, a marketing and Spanish major, owns a 3.638 cumulative grade-point average. She is a member of UW-Oshkosh’s Marketing & Sales Club, International Business Club, and the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. Jahn is a two-time UW-Oshkosh Dean’s List member.

Johnsrud earned a total of 10 letters at UW-Oshkosh – four in cross country and three each in indoor and outdoor track & field. He earned All-WIAC first team laurels in cross country in 2013 and All-WIAC second team accolades this past February while running the 5,000-meter run on the indoor track.

Johnsrud concluded his cross country eligibility in 2013. That season, he placed 13th at the NCAA Division III Cross Country Midwest Regional and 106th at the national championship. The Fall River native also placed seventh to lead the Titans to a runner-up finish at the prestigious Roy Griak Invitational.

Johnsrud, a special education major, owns a 3.958 cumulative grade-point average. He was UW-Oshkosh’s Homecoming King in 2013 and served as a volunteer with the International Walk With Kids To School Day, Hands On Oshkosh, Salvation Army, and Feeding America. Johnsrud is a 10-time UW-Oshkosh Dean’s List member.

The John Taylor Scholar-Athlete Award was first presented in 1976.
