“Ask Before You Act”

Many NCAA rules have exceptions and distinctions that govern how and when they apply to individual student-athletes or specific situations within NCAA Division III intercollegiate athletics. If there is any concern or doubt over how potential actions might affect eligibility or result in penalty, we strongly urge you to remember the NCAA mottos “Ask Before You Act” and “Better Safe Than Sorry.”

Eligibility 101

All student-athletes must meet the following requirements in order to be eligible for practice and competition:

A) Meeting with the Compliance Coordinator at the beginning of each academic year that includes discussion of NCAA, conference, and institutional rules, regulations, and policies. All eligibility paperwork must be filled out accurately and completely.

B) NCAA International Form completed and verified (international students only).

C) A series of mandatory forms from Sports Medicine must be completed prior to practicing or competing. For more information, please visit our sports medicine page.

D) You must be a full-time student at UW-Oshkosh. A full-time student is an undergraduate enrolled in 12 or more credit hours.

E) You must have a 2.0 cumulative grade point average or higher.

F) NCAA Division III rules state you have four years of eligibility for each sport you participate in. You must complete those four years of eligibility within your first 10 semesters of being a full-time college student.

G) Graduate Students are only eligible if you meet both requirements below:

     1. You have graduated from UW-Oshkosh (or an NCAA waiver is filed through UW-Oshkosh).
     2. You have not completed 10 semesters of full-time study.

If you have any questions regarding eligibility or other NCAA regulations, please contact Abby Gildernick.

Transfers

If you are interested in transferring to UW-Oshkosh from either a two or four-year college (NCAA Division I, II, or III, or NAIA), we need to receive written permission to contact you from the school you are at before our coaches can contact you directly. If you would like to have our Athletics Department contact your institution and begin the process, please contact Abby Gildernick and let her know of your interest in transferring to UW-Oshkosh.

If you attend a NCAA Division III institution, you can provide permission to contact by completing a self-release form. Upon completing this form, the NCAA grants NCAA Division III Student-Athletes the right to contact other Division III institutions for a limited period of time (30 days). If you would like to self-release so a UW-Oshkosh coach can contact you, a link to the NCAA Permission to Contact: Self-Release Form is below.
